... is surely one of the main reasons why whisky is so endlessly fascinating. And the fact that there are unique stories to tell about almost every whisky. Even the very first drops of this ‘water of life’ on the tongue are the key to a world of flavour all of its own, allowing one to savour the distinct characteristics of each whisky’s origin and history.
The more you know about whisky, the more flavour profiles you have explored and compared, the more clearly its unique characteristics emerge – characteristics created for no other purpose than to delight our senses. I first became captivated by the ‘water of life’ over 30 years ago, and with every new drop I’ve tasted, my passion has only grown.

With a passion for whisky and a deep understanding of the spirit, we offer you a wide selection of both well-known and lesser-known single malt whiskies, mainly from Scotland. Our top priority: we have to like them ourselves, and they have to be worth the price – even if both of those criteria are highly subjective.
We have around 2,000 different whiskies and premium spirits in stock in our store and warehouses. In our store, we take the time to provide detailed advice and explanations. Whisky isn’t just a business – it brings together people who share a passion for the same things and inspire one another with their enthusiasm. You can experience this time and again at our tastings, which we organize around various themes, distilleries, or bottlers.

We are honored to have been the official Michel Couvreur importer for Southern Germany since 2015 and to be able to present these wonderful whiskies. Like our customers, we are also thrilled by the outstanding craftsmanship with which Michel Couvreur creates exceptional whiskies with an inimitable old-school sherry character.
That’s why his whiskies usually take center stage at our trade shows and tastings. We don’t just see ourselves as ambassadors; we’re definitely among the biggest fans of these magnificent whiskies. And, of course, we have all the latest Michel Couvreur bottlings in stock. We’re happy to offer them for tasting in-store and as samples for mail order.

Independent bottlers
Holding your own against the big players is never easy. But some people don’t even want to. Being independent offers the chance to either preserve what makes you unique or to be flexible and creative. Or both. In a niche, what makes you special can be preserved, and the unexpected can emerge and flourish.
That’s why we’re always on the hunt for hidden gems, and we often find them among independent bottlers.
We have around 1,000 single-cask bottlings from some 30 independent bottlers in stock – mostly cask strength – many of which are even available for tasting.

The Blossoming Auld Sherried has been Michel Couvreur’s ‘single cask flagship’ for many years; this ‘old-school sherry cask malt’ has usually been matured for around 16 years in a very old PX butt. As this maturation process in MC’s cellars takes place partly in a very humid area, where a high alcohol loss of 7% per year is normal, we believe that the ‘blossoming’ is comparable to malts from the well-known sherry cask distilleries of a few decades ago, which typically had to mature for around 25 years in order to achieve a similar result to that of MC in Burgundy. And the quality of MC’s casks is legendary (as a rule, casks deemed good enough for a Blossoming have been filled with sherry for over 40 years) – indeed, probably unique – which is what makes this gem from a bygone era so wonderful and fully justifies the price. Incidentally, Couvreur ‘produces’ just two or three casks of this outstanding whisky!
And the special feature to finish with: for the first time, cellar master Jean-Arnaud Frantzen has bottled the Blossoming at just under natural cask strength – 48% instead of the usual 45%. That’s significantly more concentration than ‘just 3% more’ would suggest. Just give it a try – it really is something you’ll only find at Michel Couvreur!

Our esteemed colleague is always recommending new bottles of his favorite whiskies from exclusive sherry cask releases.
For over a quarter of a century, Niels has been a connoisseur and lover of Scottish single malts. He is particularly fond of bottlings from exclusive sherry casks – especially when they are paired with notes of smoke and peat.

It hits the nose immediately and fully, with an alcohol-driven, pleasant sweetness and dry fruitiness – already showing a delicate, light acidity – all in keeping with the motto: "Watch out! Something really special is coming ..."
When drunk, it reveals a full-bodied, dry fruitiness of berries (now with a lovely, subtle astringency), which is VERY clearly characterised by the Manzanilla.
On the finish, a gently rising sweetness envelops the tongue from the sides... and lingers there.
For me, THE youngest Manzanilla ever bottled.

Behind Auld Goonsy’s Malt’s independent bottlings is Global Whisky Limited, founded in Glasgow in 2017 by whisky enthusiasts David Gowans and Louis Stewart. The name “Auld Goonsy” refers to a kind of mascot: a typical Glasgow pub-goer and former cooper. According to a Reddit discussion, the character is even said to be based on the father of one of the founders.
Benrinnes produces wonderfully elegant, floral distillates with darker, more robust notes than most Speysides. The finish in Oloroso casks has not only given this rich malt a very dark color but has also delivered on flavor: dark, candied fruits, lovely mocha and bittersweet chocolate notes, subtle spices, and a heavy maltiness. We think it’s very well done.
